In a statement, the group hailed Nasrallah's decades-long leadership in the resistance against Israel, vowing to continue his legacy in supporting Palestine and defending Lebanon.
"The Master of Resistance, the righteous servant, has moved to God's side, earning His pleasure, as a great martyr, a heroic, brave, wise, insightful, and faithful leader," read the text.
The statement also highlighted Nasrallah's leadership in the resistance against Israel, from the liberation of southern Lebanon in 2000 to the 2006 war, as well as his role in supporting Palestine, Gaza, and the Palestinian people.
According to the statement, Hezbollah vowed to continue fighting against Israel, supporting Gaza and Palestine, and defending Lebanon and its people.
In conclusion, Hezbollah conveyed condolences to "his [Nasrallah's] family and to various religious and political figures, including the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the broader Islamic Nation, and all the free and oppressed people of the world," while reaffirming "loyalty to the resistance and sacrifice until victory."
According to Israeli officials speaking to the News York Times, members of Hezbollah retrieved the body of Nasrallah early on Saturday, along with that of the commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, Ali Karaki, who was also killed in the strikes, along with other commanders.
The successor
The Israeli officials told the paper that Hashem Safieddine, a cousin of the Lebanese leader who is a key player in the movement, "was one of the few remaining senior Hezbollah leaders not present at the site of the strike."
Safieddine has long been considered a potential successor to Nasrallah.
Hamas was the first to react to the Sayyed Nasrallah assassination. In a statement, the Palestinian group praised Nasrallah's sacrifices and expressed condolences and solidarity with Hezbollah.
The statement also condemned "this barbaric Zionist aggression and the targeting of residential buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut" as a "cowardly terrorist act" and a "heinous crime."
"It once again proves the bloodthirstiness and savagery of this occupying entity, which disregards all international norms and laws, and poses a blatant threat to international peace and security," the statement added.
