"The Israeli enemy targeted Lebanese army personnel in the vicinity of Yater village, in the Bint Jbeil area of the south, while carrying out an operation to evacuate the wounded, which led to the deaths of three martyrs, including an officer," an army statement said.

According to Al Jazeera, a total of 13 Lebanese soldiers have been killed by Israeli fire since 29 September.

The Lebanese army is not fighting the Israelis in these cases. What they are doing is providing support services for civil defence or emergency services. They are trying to help the civilian population, and it is in that role that they have been attacked, Al Jazeera said.

Israel unleashed a wave of airstrikes on Beirut on Wednesday night, as the war in Lebanon reached its one-month mark.

With six buildings levelled in at least 17 Israeli raids, the strikes mark one of the most brutal nights in the capital's southern suburbs since the war erupted on 23 September.

On Wednesday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed "deep concern" to his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant over strikes on the Lebanese army after three soldiers were killed over the weekend.

Lebanon's military said Sunday that an Israeli strike had targeted the soldiers' vehicle in the country's south.

Austin "emphasized the importance of taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL forces," referring to the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon.

UNIFIL has accused Israel of attacking its members multiple times in recent weeks.
