The National News Agency (NNA) reported "a series of strikes" on the ancient coastal city, beginning with a raid on a residential apartment.
Thick clouds of smoke covering parts of Tyre, including rising from a building along the seafront, were reported on TV screens around the world.
Israeli military spokesman's post on X, which urged Tyre's residents to "head north", showed large swathes of the city marked in red, including an area abutting a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Israeli army has bombed areas in Gaza and Lebanon that were issued "evacuation orders" without leaving any time for residents to leave before Israeli warplanes destroy entire residential blocks, killing and wounding untold numbers.
On Monday, the Israeli army blew up entire residential buildings and homes in the town of Aitroun on the Lebanese-Israeli border, according to Sky News Arabia.
The army has detonated homes and residential buildings in other towns and villages in the past 72 hours.
Israel troops have carried out a scorched earth military campaign across the entire south of Lebanon to push hundreds of thousands of civilians toward the north of the country.
The NNA said the union of Tyre instructed the civil defence and emergency personnel to use loudspeakers to urge residents to leave, "which created a state of panic."
The Israeli bombing campaign of Lebanon has killed nearly 2,600 people and wounded nearly 13,000 since 8 October 2023.
Intensive Israeli bombing of the south, Beqaa Valley, and Dahiya in south Beirut has forced nearly 1.3 million to flee their homes.
