France
The French foreign ministry said the election of army chief Joseph Aoun as president “opens a new page for the Lebanese” and urged “the appointment of a strong government” to drag the country out of a political and economic crisis.
France "will continue to be at the side of Lebanon and its people," Macron told Aoun in a telephone call, the French presidency said in a statement. Macron said he would go to Lebanon "very soon".
"Congratulations to President Joseph Aoun on this crucial election," Macron wrote on X earlier.
"It paves the way for reform and the restoration of Lebanon's sovereignty and prosperity," he added.
Qatar
Qatar praised the election of Joseph Aoun, calling for "stability" after the more than two-year vacancy was filled.
"The State of Qatar welcomes the election of Lebanese army commander General Joseph Aoun," the foreign ministry said in a statement, adding that it hoped his election would "contribute to establishing security and stability in Lebanon".
US
US President Joe Biden welcomed the election of Joseph Aoun as Lebanon's president, saying in a statement that the army chief was the "right leader" for the war-battered country.
"President Aoun has my confidence. I believe he is the right leader for this time," said Biden, adding that Aoun would provide "critical leadership" in overseeing an Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire.
Israel
Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar welcomed the election of Lebanese army chief Joseph Aoun as Lebanon's president, expressing hope that it would help achieve stability.
"I hope that this choice will contribute towards stability, a better future for Lebanon and its people and to good neighbourly relations," Saar, whose country was at war with Lebanese armed group Hezbollah until late last year, said on X.
Arab League
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, posted on X , My sincere congratulations to Lebanon on the election of His Excellency President Joseph Aoun as the new president of the country after a long wait. All the best wishes to the new President for success in his new duties and to the people of Lebanon for peace, stability and prosperity."
Russia
Russia welcomes the election of a new president of Lebanon, which it hopes will bring political stability to the country.
The foreign ministry, in a statement, said the election of army chief Joseph Aoun "opened up the prospect of strengthening internal political stability in Lebanon and righting the country's complex social and economic position".
Germany
Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said the election of army chief Joseph Aoun as Lebanon's new president was a chance for "reforms and change" in the war-ravaged country.
"After many years of crisis and stagnation, this is a moment of opportunity to bring about reforms and change," Baerbock said on social media platform X.
"Germany stands by the side of the people of Lebanon on the way forward."
European Union
EU chief Ursula von der Leyen hailed the election of army chief Joseph Aoun as Lebanon's new president as a "moment of hope" for the war-battered country.
"The way is now open to stability and reforms. Europe supports this path," the European Commission president wrote on X.
Palestine
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that Lebanon will overcome the "repercussions of Israeli aggression" under the leadership of its new president, Joseph Aoun.
"We are confident that our brotherly Lebanon will overcome the repercussions of the Israeli occupation's aggression and achieve development and prosperity," Abbas said in a statement, referring to Israel's war with Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which ended late last year.
UN Security Council
The UN Security Council hailed the election of Joseph Aoun as the country's president, saying it ends "more than two years of vacancy of this important position."
Council members emphasized the need for "fully functional state institutions, to address the pressing political, economic and security challenges" in Lebanon, according to a statement read to reporters by Algerian ambassador Amar Bendjama, whose country currently holds the body's rotating presidency.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also welcomed Aoun's election.
"This is a critical step towards overcoming Lebanon's political and institutional impasse after over two years of presidential vacuum," his spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters.
"We encourage a swift formation of a new government to provide Lebanese people with the functioning state institutions that address their needs and address their aspirations," he added.
Turkey
Turkey congratulated new President Joseph Aoun and said it hoped the new government in Beirut "will contribute to the stability of Lebanon".
The foreign ministry said in a brief statement that it hoped Aoun's election would also help bring about the "peace and prosperity of the region".
UK
Britain welcomed the election of Joseph Aoun, saying it was looking forward to working with him to support stability in the war-battered nation.
"I congratulate General Joseph Aoun on his election as president of Lebanon, I look forward to working with his government to support Lebanon's stability and prosperity, " Foreign Secretary David Lammy wrote in a post on the X .
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulated Joseph Aoun on his election as Lebanon’s president, Saudi Press Agency reported.
UAE
President Sheikh Mohamed congratulated Gen Aoun on his election victory and wished him "success in leading his country and its people to further stability, development and progress".
He also said on X that he looked forward to working with Mr Aoun to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and Lebanon.
Jordan
Jordan's King Abdullah sent a message wishing Mr Aoun success in serving Lebanon, enhancing its progress and development, and achieving prosperity for the Lebanese people.
"The king reiterates Jordan's support for Lebanon in supporting its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and stresses the strength of deep-rooted bilateral relations, and the keenness to expand opportunities for co-operation, and maintain co-ordination to achieve common interests, and enhance Arab unity," the official Petra news agency reported.
Egypt
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated Lebanon’s newly elected president, Joseph Aoun, on Thursday, expressing his eagerness to meet soon to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.
In a phone call, El-Sisi voiced confidence in Aoun’s ability to lead Lebanon through the critical challenges facing the country and the region, emphasising Egypt’s belief in his leadership to fulfil the aspirations of the Lebanese people, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.
El-Sisi reiterated Cairo’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty and affirmed Egypt's readiness to assist Lebanon in overcoming its challenges and embarking on a new era of security and stability.
Gulf Cooperation Council
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi congratulated Aoun and wished him success in achieving stability, prosperity, and stronger ties with the GCC.
Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC's support for Lebanon's sovereignty, security, stability, and armed forces.
Canada
"Congratulations, President Joseph Aoun, on your election. Lebanon now has a renewed opportunity to meet the legitimate demands of its people for a sustainable, peaceful future." Mélanie Joly, the minister of foreign affairs, posted on X.
