Aboul-Gheit said that in its current wars on the occupied Palestinian territory, especially Gaza, Lebanon and Syria, Israel has entered a phase in which it deliberately breaches signed agreements, acts with impunity, and kills more civilians.
He warned of the consequences of global powerlessness before the occupation’s brazen disregard for everything international law stands for.
“The Israeli war machine does not seem inclined to cease its operations as long as the occupation’s leaders insist on addressing their internal crises by exporting them,” the Arab League’s Secretary-General said, adding that this strategy has become evident to all.
Since 18 March 2025, Israel has resumed its genocidal war on Gaza, killing over 1,000 Palestinians—including at least 322 children—and wounding nearly 2,400. The total death toll since the war began on 7 October 2023 has surpassed 50,423, with more than 114,000 injured, the majority of whom are women and children.
On Friday, Israeli strikes killed at least 30 people in Gaza overnight, following a string of airstrikes the previous day that killed at least 55 people, according to hospital officials. Since 2 March 2025, Israel has sealed all crossings to Gaza, blocking essential goods such as food, water, fuel, and medicine, leaving more than 2 million Palestinians on the brink of starvation.
Meanwhile, in Syria, Israel launched a series of strikes on military targets, including an airport and ground incursions that left 13 people dead. The Syrian foreign ministry reported that Israel targeted five areas within 30 minutes, causing near-total destruction at the Hama Air Base and injuring dozens of civilians and soldiers.
In tandem, Israel has continued its attacks on Lebanon, violating the ceasefire that had been in place since November.
Last week, Israeli airstrikes targeted Beirut, hours after rockets were fired from Lebanon toward Israel—though Hezbollah denied responsibility.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel has committed 1,289 violations, killing at least 108 people and injuring more than 335 others, according to official statistics.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, reiterated Aboul-Gheit’s concern that the Israeli war on Gaza—marked by daily, widespread killings and the displacement of hundreds of thousands within the Strip—represents an unprecedented phase of brutality and dehumanization.
“The goal is to pave the way for expelling people from the Gaza Strip by rendering life there impossible,” Rushdi said.
He also condemned Israel’s resumed assassinations in Lebanon as an unacceptable breach of the ceasefire agreement, warning that it could lead to an escalation too serious to contain.
“Israel is clearly seeking to destabilize Syria and Lebanon through reckless military escalation, aimed solely at provocation and inciting conflict,” he added. Such actions, Rushdi said, serve narrow domestic agendas while sacrificing innocent lives and jeopardizing regional stability.
