The strike, part of Israel’s latest wave of missile attacks on Tehran, targeted the building housing the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
Though the facility was damaged, IRIB resumed broadcasting shortly after.
The Union of Broadcasting and Television Stations of the OIC, chaired by Egyptian broadcaster Amr El-Leithy, called the attack a “flagrant violation” of United Nations (UN) conventions that protect media institutions and journalists.
In a statement issued Monday, the union said such strikes seriously threaten journalism and freedom of expression.
It voiced solidarity with Iranian media workers and warned that targeting press institutions is unjustifiable and undermines the right to access information and the media’s role in promoting dialogue.
The statement urged the international community to take concrete steps to prevent future attacks on journalists and media outlets, warning that such incidents threaten regional stability and the media’s role in fostering peace.
