The Israeli police said they had secured a site in the Red Sea port city of Eilat on Thursday after the impact of a Houthi drone launched from the east.

"Officers have secured the impact site, and police bomb disposal experts are working to both identify the object and remove the remains," the force said in a statement.

"Search and rescue teams are operating in the area where the report was received regarding the impact," the military said in a separate statement.

Israeli media aired footage showing that the drone had hit near the entrance of a hotel.

The strike caused damage but no injuries, according to authorities.

The military added that the air force had intercepted a second drone approaching from the east.

The Houthis in Yemen claimed responsibility for the missile and drone attacks, which they have repeatedly carried out to pressure Israel to end its war on the Gaza Strip, where over 65,000 Palestinians have been killed.

Thursday’s incident comes just days before the start of the Jewish New Year holidays, when many Israeli families travel to Eilat to celebrate.
