"Israeli aggression targets the capital Sanaa," confirmed Al-Masirah television channel, as explosions and plumes of smoke were seen and heard from three locations in the Sanaa area.

The Israeli occupation army claimed it has used dozens of warplanes and air support units to target the command headquarters of the Houthi General Staff and compounds of the group’s security and intelligence apparatus.

The Houthis have not released casualty figures from the Israeli strikes yet.

On Wednesday, the Houthis launched a drone attack from Yemen in the southern Israeli town of Eilat, wounding 22 people, including two in serious condition.

The Israeli attack on Thursday came just as the station announced that rebel leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi's weekly televised speech was due to go on air.

The Houthis have repeatedly launched missiles and drones at military targets in Israel and Israel-linked ships in the Red Sea over the past two years in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid the Israeli genocidal war on the strip.

The Israeli airstrikes on Yemeni cities and ports have killed hundreds of civilians in the past two years
