The statement released by PM Netanyahu, isolated and derided globally for his two-year-old genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, came two hours after US Donald Trump said in a post to Truth Social that Hamas' positive response to his Gaza ceasefire plan indicates the group is ready for peace and added that Israel "must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly."
In a video statement and social media post, Trump described the development as a major breakthrough toward ending the nearly two-year war, asserting that Hamas is now “ready for a lasting PEACE.”
The US President framed the moment as a decisive turning point, calling it a "big day" and "unprecedented" in the diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
He emphasized the necessity of achieving a fair resolution for all parties involved and credited key regional mediators, including Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan, for their collaborative roles.
Trump stated that continued fighting makes the release of the remaining 48 Israeli captives, who are believed to be scattered across the territory, "far too dangerous to do that."
The 20-point Trump Gaza plan stipulates an immediate ceasefire and the release within 72 hours of 20 living Israelis held in Gaza, as well as the remains of those thought to be dead, in exchange for hundreds of detained Palestinians.
Hamas’ response, released an hour ago and posted by Trump on Truth Social, announced the group’s “agreeing to releasing all occupation prisoners, both alive and deceased,” but added that the release would occur “with the necessary field conditions for implementing the exchange.”
Hamas responded immediately to Trump's directive to Israel to stop the bombing of Gaza immediately, decribing it as "encouraging."
Earlier on Friday, the Palestinian resistance group said it "has agreed to releasing all occupation prisoners, both living and remains, according to the exchange formula contained in President Trump’s proposal, with the necessary field conditions for implementing the exchange."
"In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter, through the mediators, into negotiations to discuss the details," it added.
The Palestinian resistance group reiterated it was ready "to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independents (technocrats) based on Palestinian national consensus and supported by Arab and Islamic backing."
As for other issues in Trump’s proposal relating to Gaza’s future and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, Hamas said these must be decided through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework, grounded in international law and relevant UN resolutions, in which Hamas will participate “with full responsibility.”
