Araghchi made the comment in a live interview from Muscat, on Iranian state television. He described the talks as taking place over multiple rounds and focusing primarily on establishing a framework for further negotiations.

Oman mediated indirect talks Friday between Iran and the United States over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, seeking to de-escalate tensions between the nations.
Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who is mediating the talks, held separate meetings with Araghchi and the US delegation, led by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the consultations focused on setting conditions for resuming “diplomatic and technical negotiations,” underscoring Oman’s commitment to bridging differences.
The talks focused exclusively on Iran’s nuclear programme, with Tehran firmly rejecting any discussion of its missile capabilities or support for regional militant groups, even as US officials had indicated a desire to broaden the agenda.
Ahead of the discussions, Iranian state television reported that Tehran had deployed its Khorramshahr-4 long-range ballistic missile in a Revolutionary Guards underground “missile city,” underscoring the country’s firm stance on its missile programme.
Iranian officials told Reuters last week that, while Tehran has shown flexibility on uranium enrichment—including offering to hand over 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium (HEU)—its primary demand remains the lifting of sanctions reimposed after the United States withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018.
The United States, along with European allies and Israel on top, accuses Iran, without substantial evidence. of using its nuclear programme to develop weapons, a claim Iran denies, asserting its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes only.
