Ahmed Aboul Gheit, secretary-general of the Arab League, condemned Iran’s escalation against civilian targets and vital facilities in the Gulf, warning that the attacks risk pushing the region toward further instability.

In remarks carried by his office on Wednesday, Aboul Gheit said the targeting of civilian sites and critical infrastructure represented a “dangerous escalation” that Iran should reconsider.

His spokesman, Gamal Roshdy, said the secretary-general viewed the strikes as aggression against civilian populations and essential facilities.

Roshdy added that the Arab League chief was closely monitoring developments and warned that attacks on civilian targets and infrastructure could place the region on a “dangerous trajectory”.

He said the escalation was directed at states that were not involved in the conflict and had not sought confrontation.

Such actions, he added, risk deepening tensions and hostility across the region.

Iran’s attacks on Gulf targets, including sites hosting US assets, come in response to the US-Israeli war on Tehran that erupted on 28 February and has rapidly escalated into the most serious confrontation in decades between Iran and the Washington–Tel Aviv alliance.

The two allies launched “Operation Epic Fury”, a coordinated campaign targeting key Iranian installations, including missile bases, air defence systems, and nuclear and command facilities in Tehran, Isfahan, and the Natanz nuclear facility, among other strategic locations.

The strikes killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian authorities.

At least 1,250 Iranians have been killed, including the Minab school massacre's 184 victims, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS).
