Despite ongoing peace negotiations between Israel and the Lebanese government, brokered by Washington, Israel has violated the terms of the ceasefire immediately after it started. with Israeli strikes killing at least eight people since 16 April.

In the first three days of the truce, media and legal monitoring groups documented 220 Israeli violations of the truce, including widespread demolitions of villages and homes, continued occupation of vast areas in the south, airstrikes and artillery fire, and the establishment of a so-called yellow line to prevent civilians from returning to occupied areas.

On Wednesday, a targeted Israeli strike on a vehicle in Nabatiyeh killed three people, including a prominent Lebanese journalist, Amal Khalil, who had covered Israel's bombing campaign in Lebanon for the daily Al-Akhbar newspaper.

Since the start of the Israeli escalation in bombing in Lebanon on 2 March 2026, Israeli strikes killed nearly 2,450 people, wounded 7,600, and destroyed tens of thousands of housing units, displacing more than 1.2 million people.
