An Israeli strike killed two people in Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Monday morning, according to Nasser Hospital, while another left three people were killed in Jabaliya in northern Gaza, including Jad Soleiman, an 8-year-old boy, according to Shifa Hospital. Several were also wounded.
Jad’s father, Yusuf, clutched his son’s backpack and kissed his face as the child’s body, wrapped in a white burial shroud, lay before him.
“He was coming home from school,” Soleiman said. “I ran to him and found him lying down with his bag still on. It’s covered in his blood. He was wounded and bleeding from the neck. He was taking his last breaths."
Gaza City and Deir al-Balah in central Gaza were also hit. Casualty figures were not immediately available.
The attacks were the latest in a series of strikes that have hit homes and shelters across Gaza since October’s fragile ceasefire that sought to halt Israel's more than two-year genocidal war on Gaza.
Israel has persistently violated the ceasefire agreement through near-daily attacks, aggressively expanding its self-declared "Yellow Line" to seize more territory from Palestinians. The ongoing expansion has systematically forced the displaced population into a shrinking area comprising less than 40 percent of the Gaza Strip.
Since the ceasefire officially went into effect last October, the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli occupation forces has reached 970, with 3,063 others injured. This brings the catastrophic total since October 7, 2023, to 72,980 martyrs, in majority children and women and 173,171 recorded injuries.
