After violent police raid resulting in civilian deaths, Bahrain opposition calls for government to step down

The Bahraini opposition has called for the government to resign following a deadly police raid on anti-regime protesters that left at least 5 dead in Manama, the head of a Shiite opposition bloc said on Thursday.

"The opposition groups, including Al-Wefaq, have issued a statement demanding the government resign and calling for the formation of a new government to investigate this crime," said Al-Wefaq leader Ali Salman.

The police raid left four people dead and scores wounded in the capital of the Shiite-majority Gulf state ruled by a Sunni dynasty.
