Tunisia's interim president Moncef Marzouki has extended the state of emergency in Tunisia for another month, starting on Tuesday.
A presidential statement, issued Monday night, said that the president made the decision in consultation with figures in his government as well as the security apparatus.
Tunisian people have been living under a state of emergency for over two years since they ousted Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali on 14 January 2011. Since then, the army has had a noticeable presence on the streets and has been deployed more heavily in front of key facilities in the country.
Opposition groups continue to voice their demand to end the state of emergency and to release the army from managing internal security.
The Tunisian army has been launching major operations in Jebel Alhaanbe on its borders with Algeria as part of campaign to track insurgents who have planted mines in the area, leading to the death of 18 policemen and soldiers.
