The Algerian state news agency released a photograph of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Wednesday, the first since he was rushed to hospital in France on 27 April after a stroke.
Bouteflika, 76, has not been seen in public since, raising widespread speculation about his health.
The photograph shows the president at a meeting on Tuesday afternoon with the prime minister and the army chief of staff, discussing Algeria's political and security situation, the APS news agency said.
It shows Bouteflika, sitting in a chair and wearing a black coat, looking frail as he listens to Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.
