Turkey's state-run Anatolia news agency says a 22-year-old protester in southern Turkey has died after being hit in the head by a police tear gas canister.
Ahmet Atakan died Tuesday after taking part in a protest in the southern city of Antakya late Monday. The protest was organized to show solidarity with students opposed to the construction of a road through a university in Ankara.
Atakan is the sixth anti-government protester killed in Turkey in recent months. A police crackdown on a sit-in to protect an Istanbul park ignited nationwide protests in June that turned into an expression of discontent with what opponents say is the government's increasingly authoritarian style.
