Turkish riot police fired tear gas and water cannon on Wednesday at thousands of people in Ankara protesting at the death of a teenage boy wounded during anti-government unrest last year.

Police stepped in when the crowds attempted to close a major road in Ankara's central Kizilay square to traffic, an AFP photographer said.
