Strong 6.0-magnitude quake rattles northern Thailand: USGS

A strong 6.0-magnitude earthquake rattled northern Thailand on Monday afternoon, geologists said, adding it was at a shallow depth of 7.4 kilometres (4.5 miles).

The quake struck just after 6pm local time (1200 GMT) around 27 kilometres (17 miles) from the mountainous northern city of Chiang Rai, USGS said in a statement.
