Three civilians were killed and five injured in eastern Ukraine's rebel-controlled city of Donetsk despite a ceasefire, city authorities said Monday.

"The situation in the city is very tense" and artillery was heard throughout the night, the statement by the city hall said. Kiev and pro-Russian separatists had previously agreed to start pulling back forces from the frontline if a ceasefire held over the weekend.
