Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday condemned a NATO-led operation that he said killed four members of an Afghan family and triggered protests in which 11 people died.
"Hamid Karzai, the president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned the overnight NATO operation that resulted in the deaths of four members of a family," his office said in a statement.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said four insurgents, including two armed women, were killed in the operation in the usually peaceful northeastern province of Takhar.
