A tremor struck Chile's capital city Santiago on Monday, shaking buildings, according to Reuters witnesses.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the tremor had a magnitude of 6.5, with an epicenter 143 kilometers (89 miles) north-west of port city Valparaiso.
The Onemi emergency service said it had not generated conditions necessary to create a tsunami.
The port city of Coquimbo in Chile was hit by an 8.3 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami on Wednesday, killing 13 people.
Since then there have been regular aftershocks.
