A Spanish court official says a Cuban arrested on suspicion of belonging to al-Qaida has been released but remains under investigation and has to check in with police every day.
A judge at the National Court made the decision Friday after questioning the suspect, who was arrested Monday on the Mediterranean Island of Mallorca where he lives.
The court official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with court policy.
The Cuban's name has not been released.
A police statement said he underwent "a process of radicalization in recent years," tried to recruit for the Islamist organization, praised terrorism and made unspecified threats.
It said he had produced many videos accessible on YouTube in which he praises Al-Qaeda and its goals.
