An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck northeastern Tajikistan, close to the borders with China and Kyrgyzstan, at 1424 GMT on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake, initially reported as a magnitude 6.8, struck at a depth of 75 kilometres.
