US President Barack Obama is adding $50 million to fight AIDS in the United States and new efforts to treat two million more people abroad, a White House official said Thursday.

"The president will announce $50 million in additional domestic funding for HIV/AIDS and is announcing that we are revising our treatment targets upwards globally from four million to six million by 2013," the official said.

Obama scheduled the announcement at 10:00 am (1500 GMT) in Washington at a gathering to mark World AIDS Day, an event that will also feature speeches by former president Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and an appearance by Bono.
