UN chief Ban Ki-moon arrived Friday in Mogadishu for a surprise visit -- the first by a UN secretary general since the start of the Somali conflict in 1991, an AFP reporter said.
Ban, wearing a bullet-proof vest, was welcomed by Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali at Mogadishu airport before making his way to the presidential palace.
