Russia and Ethiopia have signed an intergovernmental agreement creating a legal basis for future cooperation in the use of nuclear energy infrastructure, including the physical protection of nuclear materials and radiation security regulations.
The signing of the deal took place on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit, which includes the participation of 54 African states that have sent more than 3,000 delegates, Russian news agency TASS said on Wednesday.
The summit is hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi.
The agreement also promises a joint coordination committee to be formed in order to facilitate cooperation, which will include nuclear research collaboration and the exchange of experts and scientific information.
Getahun Mekuria Kuma, the Ethiopian minister of innovation and technology, told TASS that the country has plans to build a nuclear power plant.
