A deadly second wave of coronavirus infections is devastating India, leaving millions of people infected and putting stress on the country’s already overtaxed health care system.
India on Sunday reported its lowest daily rise in new coronavirus infections in 46 days at 165,553 cases during the previous 24 hours, while deaths rose by 3,460.
The official numbers show signs of easing,The major cities of Delhi and Mumbai, hit hard at the beginning of the second wave, have reported sharp drops in new infections and deaths.
Delhi is considering lifting lockdown restrictions.
The virus is likely spreading through the rest of the country, and only a tiny portion of the population has been fully vaccinated.
