Ten suspected Italian anarchists arrested for involvement in 2009 and 2011 bomb attacks carried out in Italy, Frankfurt and Paris

Italy's anti-terrorism police issued arrest warrants to 10 suspected anarchists on Wednesday as part of an investigation into bomb attacks in Italy, Frankfurt and Paris, Italian media reported.

Police carried out over 40 searches across Italy in their investigation into 24 members of the insurrectionary Informal Anarchist Federation (FAI) and the International Revolutionary Front (FRI) organisations.

The movements are suspected of having carried out attacks in 2009 against Milan's Bocconi University and in 2011 against the head of Italy's Equitalia tax agency, the Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and the Greek embassy in Paris.

Two of the "international terrorism" arrest warrants were for anarchists held in Switzerland and Germany, who were found in possession of incriminating documents and are suspected of being the brains behind the attacks.

The FAI has claimed several letter bomb attacks since 2000. In 2011, a suspect package for the head of Deutsche Bank was disarmed in time but another, sent to the head of Italy's tax agency exploded, wounding the recipient.

In May, the group also said it was responsible for shooting the head of the Ansaldo Nucleare unit of Italy's defence company Finmeccanica in the leg.
