Kissinger said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper " El Mundo" that a new cold war may break out between China and the United States.

The former US minister believed that both countries have similar economic resources.

This, he said, was not the case, however, during the first Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union from the mid-1940s until the early 1990s.

According to Kissinger, China and the United States have turned into rivals.

Former Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a meeting with Kissinger in September that the start of a "new cold war" between China and the United States would be a disaster for the whole world.

He stressed the need for the United States to return to a rational and pragmatic policy towards China while adhering to the three joint statements (The Three Communiques ) which serve as the political foundation for U.S-China relations.
