Nationalist Shintaro Ishihara wins Japan parliament seat: NHK

Nationalist former Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara, whose bid to buy disputed islands provoked a fierce diplomatic showdown with China, won a seat in parliament in Sunday's Japanese election, NHK said.

The broadcaster's own calculations based on exit polls showed Ishihara, who heads the populist Japan Restoration Party, would win one of 180 seats up for grabs in the proportional representation section.
