Al-Burhan's announcement came a few hours before a US-brokered 72-hour ceasefire between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF was set to come to an end on Thursday night.
The extension of the ceasefire came in accordance with the efforts of both the United States and Saudi Arabia to calm the situation in the country, according to Al-Burhan.
The report also confirmed that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed to extend the truce and promised to use it to ease the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The RSF stressed its commitment to the conditions of the truce in order to support the efforts to evacuate citizens, foreigners, and dipolmatic missions so that they could return safely to their families.
