Egypt will stop disbursing the salaries of its civil servants in cash as of July, state news agency MENA reported on Monday, quoting minister of finance Hany Kadry.
Government employees will instead receive their pay through bank accounts, said Kadry.
He added that government salaries amounted to LE207 billion in the current fiscal year’s budget.
In January 2014, Egypt started implementing a minimum wage of LE1,200 for workers in the public sector, and later introduced a maximum wage of 35 times that amount.
Egypt’s public administration employs over 6 million civil servants.
