Egypt's Chamber of Travel Agencies is willing to pay LE100,000 ($14.3 thousand) in compensation to the family of Samy Joseph, the Egyptian driver killed in Sunday's bomb blast on a tourist bus in South Sinai, announced secretary of the chamber’s fund Ihab Abdel-Aal on Thursday.

Carrying 33 South Korean tourists in the Red Sea resort town of Taba, near the Egypt-Israel border, the bus was attacked by what Egyptian officials say was a suicide bomber. Three South Korean tourists were killed.

The Egyptian Tourism Authority announced plans on Wednesday to offer LE50,000 (roughly $7000) in compensation to the driver’s family.

The Tourism Ministry is also planning to carry costs of the tourists who survived the attack, such as accommodation for the rest of their stay in Egypt and transport expenses to Cairo. The tourists, however, have not been offered compensations.

A rule approved by the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority obliging travel agencies to insure tourists against personal accidents awaits ratification by the minister of tourism.
