The government has held a fair exhibiting food and non-food products at a 40 percent discount to provide an alternative to rising prices ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.

Egyptians are accustomed to consuming certain foods and drinks to break the fast. Before turning to solid foods, Egyptians drink juices made from dry fruits. These include dried apricots, Tamarind, plums, dates and figs.

High demand for these products ahead of Ramadan increases prices.

Ministers of social solidarity, supply and industry attended the opening of the fair at the convention centre in Nasr City in eastern Cairo.
