Higher world oil prices pushed Algeria's trade surplus up to $4.24 billion in the first quarter of 2011 from $3.37 billion in the same period last year, a rise of around 25 per cent, official figures showed on Monday.
Exports were up 14 per cent compared with January-March 2010, while imports were up 10 per cent, the figures released by the customs service showed.
The value of oil and gas sales abroad, which accounted for 96.7 per cent of total exports, rose 13.3 per cent in comparison. There was no breakdown of energy exports.
