A Cairo criminal court handed on Monday a three year jail sentence to former housing minister Mohamed Ibrahim Suleiman, and a number of ex-officials in the retrial of the corruption case known as “SODIC”.
Suleiman, who served under former president Hosni Mubarak, was found guilty of squandering public funds by selling land to Six of October Development & Investment Company (SODIC) at below market prices.
SODIC is a real-estate development company owned by fugitive businessman Magdy Rasekh, the father-in-law of ousted president Hosni Mubarak’s son Alaa.
In 2013, Suleiman successfully appealed a five year jail sentence he received in March 2012 on charges of selling government land to SODIC at below market prices, allegedly costing the state's treasury LE970 million.
