Egypt’s Ministry of Justice has ended a freeze on the assets and properties of former interior minister Habib El-Adly, who was acquitted last March on charges of killing protesters during the 2011 revolution and abusing his power to acquire illicit gains.

The ministry’s order, which has been sent to property registration bureaus throughout the country, will go into effect immediately as there are no longer any court orders imposing an asset freeze, the ministry said on Wednesday.

El-Adly served as interior minister from 1997 till 2011under Egypt’s now-ousted president Hosni Mubarak.
