Egypt to confront imminent electricity crisis on fuel shortage

MENA , Sunday 14 Aug 2011

Egypt's electricity and oil ministries are planning to confront the imminent energy crisis, which has already resulted in power cuts

Egypt
Several areas in Egypt have suffered repeated power outages.

The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Energy is quickly coordinating with officials of the Ministry of Oil to fill the shortage of oil, diesel and natural gas at Egypt's power plants.

"The shortage has thus far caused a loss of 1000 MW of production in power plants" said Aktham Abo El-Ela, the ministry spokesman.

Abo El-Ela stated that the loss led to electricity cuts in several areas to meet the necessary production and to maintain network security.

The Ministry of Electricity issued a statement two days ago asking citizens to reduce power consumption to counter the fuel shortage.
