Two villages in the Western Desert oasis, Siwa, have been lightened by solar genrated electricity, in the first of its kind step towards expanding the use of renewable energy in the country. The lighting of the two villages by solar energy, was part of a joint project by the Egyptian New & Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), and Italian Ministry of the Environment and Territory cooperation, according to Alaqasadya website.
Solar-generated electrical power was extended to all the houses and schools in the two villages of Om El-Saghir, and Ain Zohra, both located in Siwa governorate.
