Strike enters its twelfth day as rumours spread of concessions by management

Disgruntled workers at the Egyptian Sugar and Integrated Industries plant in Luxor governorate carried on their strike for a 12th continuous day on Friday, demanding permanent contracts and the resignation of Hassan Kamel, the factory chairperson.

Striking workers said Kamel should resign, as he did not distribute profit shares, allowances, meals, and productivity bonuses to employees, as the workers claim is stipulated by law.

Sources from inside the factory said news had been circulating that Kamel had agreed to raise profit share totals and bonuses, but had refused to resign.

Khaled Abdel Gelil, one of the striking workers, confirmed the strike would not end until Kamel resigns.
