Flights to Tripoli and Benghazi are cancelled as employees demand better working conditions

Libyan air traffic controllers went on strike on Tuesday, paralysing flights between the country's two key cities of Tripoli and Benghazi, officials said.

Several flights to the capital Tripoli and the eastern city of Benghazi were cancelled, and a Turkish Airlines flight had to divert to Djerba in southern Tunisia, a source at Tripoli airport told AFP.

The source said the air traffic controllers are demanding better working conditions.

Yussef al-Whishi, the transport minister, visited the striking employees in an effort to find a solution, a source at the ministry said.
