The head of the parliament’s energy and environment committee Talaat El-Sewedy said the ministerial meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), hosted by Egypt, delivers a clear message to the whole world about strategic cooperation among countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region and the world’s support for them.

The forum, attended by US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry and representatives of the European Union, the World Bank and France, represents a key cooperation strategy among the eastern Mediterranean countries to make use of their natural gas resources, Sewedy said in a press release.

The lawmaker added that the natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean is a main pillar for economic prosperity, peace and security for the region’s countries.

Sewedy also expressed appreciation for President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who he said has highlighted Egypt’s vital role in establishing real partnerships with the eastern Mediterranean countries during his meeting with the ministers participating in the EMGF.
