CBE: Bank deposits hit EGP 3.911 trillion by end May

The Central Bank of Egypt on Tuesday announced a month-on-month decrease in bank deposits by around EGP 20 billion by the end of May to reach EGP 3.911 trillion, compared to EGP 3.931 trillion in April.

The total governmental deposits at banks went down by EGP 23.6 billion to reach EGP 591.8 billion, including EGP 482.4 billion in local currency and around EGP 109.4 billion in foreign currency, the CBE said in a report, a copy of which was obtained by MENA.

The total non-governmental deposits at banks increased by EGP 4 billion by the end of May to hit EGP 3.320 trillion, compared to EGP 3.316 trillion in April, the report added.

The total value of the non-governmental deposits in local currency stood at EGP 2.594 trillion in May, while non-governmental deposits in foreign currency reached EGP 725.8 billion, the report noted.
