Egypt's unemployment rate rose by 0.5 per cent to 12.4 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to an International Labour Organisation [ILO] report.
Unemployment was 11.9 per cent in the third quarter of 2011. Urban governorates saw joblessness at 19 per cent and rural governorates 8 per cent.
Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics [CAPMAS] announced on Saturday that the Egyptian labour force grew by 0.5 per cent to 27 million people in the current quarter of 2012.
In January, the index of total labour demand, whether local or external, increased by 10 points year-on-year to reach 159 in November 2011.
