RiseUp has announced that it will hold its 2020 round ‘RiseUpFrom Home: Got Grit?’ (RFH) virtually over three days, from 13 to 15 August, amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
The 2020 round will be a digital event organised by RiseUp to reconnect the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem and help entrepreneurs become more resilient, as the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged businesses everywhere.
Attendees of RFH will be exposed to real case studies on how global companies have survived the last six months, RiseUp said in a statement.
The speakers announced so far include local and regional entrepreneurs like Rana El-Kaliouby, the cofounder and CEO of Affectiva, Vezeeta’s CEO Amir Barsoum, and Instabug’s CEO Omar Gabr. Also participating are regional and global VCs and investors like 500 Startups’ Hasan Haidar and Global Ventures’ Noor Sweid, as well as global experts and professionals including Andreesen Horrowitz’s Ben Horrowitz and LinkedIn’s Allen Blue, according to the statement.
“RFH is digitising activities that were mainly conducted offline, including networking, exposure, and exhibiting, in order to prepare startups regionally for unforeseen external shocks in the future. The aim is to help startups and entrepreneurs mitigate the negative economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic by enabling stakeholders to reconnect, obtain resources, and become more resilient, and learn how to become more gritty,” founder of RiseUp Abdelhameed Sharara said.
Sharara told Ahram Online that the COVID-19 crisis is a chance for startups to grow and for entrepreneurs to create new solutions that fit the market’s needs amid the crisis. He added that there are sectors that are witnessing a boom because of the crisis including medical supplies, sanitisers, end-to-end enterprises, online gaming, online learning and ecommerce, stressing that startup owners and entrepreneurs should tap the current chance to grow and expand their business.
The online event will be hosted on home-grown event management platform Eventtus and will include workshops, keynote speeches, fireside chats, networking rooms, satellite activities, entertainment experiences, a virtual startup exhibition, consultation matchmaking and a launchpad.
Over 40 percent of the content will be held in Arabic, as RiseUp encourages the participation of aspiring entrepreneurs all over Egypt and strives to support an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The content tracks will focus on smart capital, tech for humans, creative culture and people, according to the statement.
RiseUp Summit is an annual event held with the aim of linking startup owners, entrepreneurs, and innovators with investors in order to secure suitable funds for them and to exchange experiences.
