Egypt, Ukraine discuss boosting economic cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat met on Wednesday with a high-level delegation from Ukraine headed by Ihor Zhovkva, deputy head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office for International Relations, in the presence of Evhen Mikitenko, the ambassador of Ukraine in Cairo, to outline a new path for 2021/22 cooperation.

The meeting tackled preparations to hold the eighth session of the Egyptian-Ukrainian Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Cairo during the first quarter of 2021.

The session will cover cooperation in the fields of investment, trade, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, entrepreneurship, river port development system, infrastructure, agriculture, sustainable management of water and healthcare.

Al-Mashat underscored the strategic relationship between the two countries, and Egypt's keenness to strengthen economic relations with Ukraine through economic diplomacy to strengthen a development cooperation framework that aligns with national priorities and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

On 26 September, Al-Mashat met with Mikitenko in Cairo to discuss convening the Egyptian-Ukrainian Joint Committee and to enhance future bilateral cooperation.
The seventh session of the Egyptian-Ukrainian Joint Committee was held in 2018.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea also held a meeting with the Ukrainian delegation also on Wednesday to discuss developing mutual economic relations.

The two sides discussed the idea of forming a joint task force comprising representatives from the private sectors of the two countries to focus on future economic cooperation.

Gamea said a number of memorandums of understanding are expected to be inked over the coming period to boost bilateral economic and venture cooperation.

Egyptian-Ukrainian trade exchange recorded $2.6 billion in 2019, making Egypt the largest trading partner of Ukraine in Africa and the Middle East.
