Egypt's urban consumer inflation reached 8.79 per cent in the 12 months to April 2012, a slight drop from 9 per cent in March, official data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed on Thursday.

The urban consumer price index for April was 123.8 versus 113.8 a year earlier, the CAPMAS said.

For the whole country, however, inflation reached 9.3 per cent in April. Foodstuffs, which have the largest impact on the inflation rate, saw their prices grow by 11 per cent annually.
