Egyptian banks and the stock exchange are to resume their work as of Sunday 15 August.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly had announced that 12 August will be a public holiday on the celebration of the new lunar year.

The premier’s decision applies to ministries, governmental bodies, general authorities, local administration units, public enterprises and public business sector companies.

The Ministry of Manpower is expected to announce Thursday a paid holiday for the private sector employees as well.

The first day of the Islamic year is observed by most Muslims on the first day of the month of Muharram.
