Cabinet approves amendment to grant agreement between Egypt, US

The Cabinet approved during its weekly meeting on Wednesday a draft presidential decree on the fourth amendment to a grant agreement between Egypt and the US on improving health outcomes for targeted groups.

The fourth amendment adds a sum of $18.05 million to the grant assistance, bringing the total contribution made by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to $49.136 million.

The amendment is meant to help continue the activities of a project to improve health outcomes for targeted groups, which entails supporting the family planning program, as well as Egypt Demographic and Health Survey 2018.

The Cabinet also approved a draft presidential decree on the fifth amendment to the grant agreement between Egypt and the US with regard to basic education.

The fifth amendment adds a sum of $17 million to the grant assistance, bringing the total amount of USAID contribution to $124.110 million.

The amendment aims to help continue activities of the basic education program, including the Egyptian-American learning program, the Egypt STEM Schools Project, adult literacy programs, and community learning programs.

The Cabinet also approved a draft presidential decree on the sixth amendment to the grant assistance agreement as regards US-Egypt collaboration in science and technology, in addition to the US-Egypt Higher Education Initiative.
